How I Met Your Mother – Inside the Show
A sitcom, that reminds a bit of Friends, How I Met Your Mother is first time aired in 2005. The theme is everyday life of 5 people, 2 couples among them. But, their life is no ordinary, their lives are full of fun. In case that some of those who haven’t got a chance to watch this sitcom are reading this, let’s just quickly introduce the main characters. As I said, there are 5 of them – Ted, a solitary guy who would like to have a family, but the girl he’s in love with doesn’t want a serious relationship. Marshall and Lily – a couple and Ted’s best friends, both romantic souls, soon to be married. Then there is Barney, who tries to be a womanizer (interestingly he’s gay in real life), but finally ends up with a girl named Robin Scherbatsky. If you haven’t watched it, and you trust to IMDB I suggest you change that and start watching the series from the beginning, since it is rated 8.6, which is pretty high (despite of people saying it is underrated) score.
Well, since we’ve finished the basics, let’s move on to some more interesting facts you probably didn’t know. Of course, bloopers first –
And here are some interesting fact about couples in How I Met Your Mother in the show and in the real life
Two main girls in the Show – Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) were both pregnant at the same time during the filming, but the producers didn’t want to show them as pregnant, so they used lots of television tricks and different kind of clothing for them, to cover it up. But, you can see Lily’s pregnancy in one episode -The Possimpible in which she ate lots of hot dogs and thus won the contest.
The inspiration for the character’s name – Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) was the heroin peddler from the book LA Confidential, written by James Ellroy. And Barney’s occupation is never mentioned in the series, so since we don’t know what he’s doing for living (when someone asks him about that, he always answers “Please!”) there may be the connection with the book character.
There is special moment throughout HIMYM – the military one. Every time someone mentions something that has to do anything with military personnel like “general knowledge” or “major buzzkill”, all of them salute and repeat whatever was said along with “general” or “major”.
Also, I don’t expect you to miss this great video about making and celebrating the 100th episode of HIMYM behind the scenes -
And for the end, the most interesting fact according to my opinion. During the shooting of one episode, when Robin finds a ring in her glass of champagne and everybody at the table say it’s not theirs, another guy, from another table stands up and says “It’s mine”, collects the ring and proposes his girlfriend. Of course, this wasn’t in the script originally but the man arranged it all with the producer, so his proposal will never be forgotten because it’s filmed in this episode. Amazing, isn’t it? Unfortunately I couldn’t find the right picture…
