10. Asparagus

This is a herb analyzed since 17th century, when it is showed that it ‘stirs up the lust in men and women’. After that, in the 19th century, we can find writings that say that asparagus was eaten by bride and groom before their first wedding night, and not just asparagus, but three dishes of aphrodisiac food. However, the asparagus is proven to contain lots of elements, like vitamins (A, C, B6), folic acid and some other things that increase histamine production which is essential for orgasms in both sexes. If there is someone who practices eating this for better sex experience, please, tell the others is it really worth trying.

It is wide known that when people get drunk, everything may happen, from just a simple kiss with someone to spending the whole, wild night with a stranger. If you are aware of how avocado looks like it’ll be making a perfect sense to you that it is on this list. 10. Zoe Castello and April Ryan

Zoe and April are females that we are adding for a combination of both looks and personality. Both appearing in The Longest Journey games, these female protagonists are one of those you attach to emotionally and live with them through their adventures. April in particular was a very strong female lead and the writer Tørnquist paid special attention to flesh out her personality as much as possible. We discovered more about Zoe and April through their actions and their diaries where they described how they felt and what they were thinking about when met with certain topics and missions. Sadly the sequel that was supposed to explain a lot of things, especially after Dreamfall, never saw the light of day and apparently it never will.

9. Bloodrayne

BloodRayne first brought her dhampiric sexiness in 2002 with the game simply called BloodRayne. It didn’t take long for her to become a hit and she scored another game in 2004 and 2011 alongside many comic books and even appeared in playboy. Sadly the movie media didn’t see her in her best light as she appeared in Uwe Ball movies of the same name and we all know the quality that man puts into his movies. Is “/sarcasm” even necessary?

8. Resident Evil girls

Resident Evil probably doesn’t sound like somewhere you will find hot women but sure enough gamers managed to find few icons even in zombie slaying mayhem. First Resident Evil came out in 1996 though it would take some time and sequels for these females to get in more recognizable shape. Depending on your preference the first female was either Jill Valentine or Clair Redfield though both of them paved the way for the rest, the most notable being Ada Wong in RE4. Rooster of hooties was expanded in RE5 as well with Sheva Alomar and, according to some, even by the evil Excella. As we all know Resident Evil moves are not faithful to the game series but if you are a fan of Milla Jovovich or Sienna Guillory’s portrayal of Jill Valentine, you sure had some good time with them.

7. Princess Daphne

Princess Daphne may not be a favorite these days, but it’s important to know that she was the first lady of gaming. Her first appearance was in 1983 arcade classic Dragon’s Lair and back then both the game and Daphne looked amazing. This was mostly thanks to Don Bluth who was working on the animation and made the game to look like a cartoon. Dragon’s Lair was essentially a quick time events driven game where the player had to press a right button at the right moment. Of course, given this nature and no indicators on screen, players had to play the game numerous times before figuring out and memorizing the correct pattern. Players controlled Dirk the Daring in his quest to defeat the evil Dragon and save the damsel in distress.  Before someone asks, yes, Daphne is the first gaming female we associated with princess in a castle.

6. Fighting games girls

This choice is a bit of a cop out but here is the thing – there are a lot of fighting games, a lot of sexy females from them and people tend to either mix them together or stay true to one series. In other words you might as well make a list constructed entirely out of ladies from fighting games. Even so we are not diminishing their influence here. Depending on your preference or chance, you were first exposed either to ladies in 2D like Mileena and Kitana from Mortal Kombat or the ever so popular Chun Li from Street Fighter, or the 3D ladies like Nina from Tekken or perhaps the not-so-small roster of ladies from Dead or Alive series along with their breast physics (and yes that is the term first used there). One of all-star favorites are also Mai from King of Fighters, Cammy from Street Fighter, Ivy from Soul Calibur and a bunch of others. I am sure if we asked around enough we would hear some choices even from Clay Fighter.

5. Princess Zelda

Unlike a lot of choices, Zelda is a fair maiden. You can even hear gamers that she is a true marriage material and it’s hard to disagree with that though I am sure nay sayers will more focus on the games themselves that are subjectively either good or bad. Of course not every Zelda game features the same, well Zelda. While her most dominant appearance is that of a princess, she played the role of supporting female characters that are less aristocratic and more down on earth. For better or for worse a lot of people also remember her from The Legend of Zelda TV show where she was a lot more annoying and playing to the stereotype of spoiled princess. She also made Link constantly say the phrase “Well excuuuuuuuse me princess”.

4. Final Fantasy girls

There is no way in hell to make fans pick just one female from the long running Final Fantasy series. Hell, it’s impossible to even narrow it down to one game, let alone one character and even then someone will pick Sephiroth. If this sounds like an attempt to justify yet another cop out on this list then it’s true but for this list to contain anything but FF girls it was imperative. So what to say about girls from the never-ending fantasy? Well Tifa seems to be the most popular one probably because she appears to be a great supportive character while also looking very good. Other choices would include Lightning and Yune for similar reasons though for those who can never have enough of cuteness there is also Vanille. Or Chocobo. 

3. Alyx Vance

Alyx first appeared in Valve’s Half Life 2 and from then on appeared in many lists like this one. Similarly to girls from the Dreamfall series, miss Vance is liked for her looks and personality. Unlike diaries April and Zoe had, Alyx has the task of filling the speechless gap of Freeman and as such her persona and actions are flashed out more often and more potently. We know that she is an uplifting person, always looking on the bright side of things and defending from fear and scariness by the means of jokes. Of course it helps a lot that the facial engine used was amazing when it came out, and still is, giving this character a wide range of emotions she could portray. Of course not even she can remain positive while waiting for the Episode 3 or Half Life 3.

2. Samus Aran

Samus is both a sex symbol for many gamers (hello there Zero Suit) as well as being the first badass girl who battled with aliens in space. Initially people didn’t know that she was a female at all mostly because of the robotic suit she is wearing. Say hello to cheat codes that revealed that she is a female and say hello to the space bikini she wore at the end of the game. Samus is mostly connected to the Metroid series that were action platformers at first but then jumped into several other genres, most notable being first person action games. She is not limited just to her starring franchise though and has since appeared as locked character in numerous Nintendo games or a fighter in Super Smash games.

1. Lara Croft

Predictable isn’t it? Lara Croft has been a wet dream for many gamers, men and even females for over a decade now. Her first appearance was in 1996 game called Tomb Raider and she gained more and more worldwide recognition after that. She appeared in more than 10 games, had a line of action figures and merchandise, comic books, movies starring Angelina Jolie and she will soon get a reboot coming out in 2012. Despite not being the only strong or sexy female in our list, she was a can of fresh air in the good old ’96 because she was a female protagonist, a capable female protagonist, and she was such a contrast to all the other heroes at the time. I guess I should mention that this mostly goes for us western audiences in EU and US but her influence expanded overnight.  It’s also true that the game itself, or series, is not bad and has influenced other popular games like the ever popular Sands of Time trilogy. Whether your role model is Indiana Jones or Nathan Drake, this is a perfect female for you. Of course without dissecting her initial character too much because otherwise we could conclude that she is a horrible person not caring for history. Isn’t perspective a bitch?

So where is Bayonetta? Faith? Morrigan? Harley Quin? Nariko? Princess Peach? Kate Archer? Chloe? Million others? Well, in case you didn’t figured it out, that just means there are a lot of good looking, sexy, cute, beautiful and just attractive females in gaming. Every one of us has its own list, possibly even larger than 10 spots but as i’ve said in the beginning this list was made by crossing a lot of other lists and polls so chances are some favorites might have been excluded. It doesn’t hurt your private collection of pics and posters anyway.

Usually, we don’t pay much attention to toilet seats, so, just because of that, take a look at these funny models.

1. Let’s start from Aladdin.

2.”True love” – The Little Mermaid.

Another seemingly impossible connection – a human and a mermaid. Two different worlds, but still together. This cartoon doesn’t stress social class differences that much as a will to fight for a true love. We all know a saying – the true love conquers all! Some even make fun of it, those are mostly people who failed at love. And because they failed, it means that there is no love, or that it can’t conquer all obstacles? Oh, come on… They have to ask themselves – did they fight hard enough, or better, was it really the TRUE love? Look what Ariel did, metaphorically - she disobeyed her father, the king, left her sisters and everything she knew for something completely unknown, she traded her voice for legs at sea witch’s, only to be with the one she loved! The moral of this cartoon is that we must fight for our loved ones, no matter how impossible or hard it seemed. No one says it will be easy, as it wasn’t for Ariel, but it pays off in the end. And for those who do not believe – love DOES conquer all!

3. Beauty and the Beast

Another love-related cartoon. One of the more complex ones. The first layer, or the first message of this cartoon that everyone can see is that the physical appearance isn’t the most important, but the inside beauty is what really matters. And that’s a good moral for the beginning. The second subliminal message is that a person who refuses love becomes a ‘beast’ in a way. Look at him – he refused love, and the enchantress turned him into a best that only can be saved by love. And only when he learns to ease and control his temper, become kind and appreciate people and things around him, he will become a person. The third, and the deepest underlying layer of the story is that Beauty and Beats represent two parts of a person – the rough and smooth one. In that case, the captivity in the castle represents that a person cannot ‘escape’ from her/himself and must work on bringing those parts together. Only when the rough part becomes smooth, and the smooth part learns how to control the rough one, a person really becomes complete. There is a motive of rose, which represents love through all the cartoon. The second and the third part a child could not really understand, so there is a proof that cartoons are not only for children.

4. The boy that everybody loves – Pinocchio

A cute wooden boy and his adventures is something we all watched and loved as children. As The Beauty and The Beast, Pinocchio also contains several levels of understanding. Let’s begin with the simplest one. The most obvious is that if you wish ‘upon a star your dreams come true’ and of course what makes everybody remember Pinocchio is his nose that grows every time he lies – so it is bad to lie. Certainly, those are things we teach our children, despite the fact that we all lie, sometimes… But, if you pay more attention and try to reveal other messages that Pinocchio is hiding you will be surprised, for sure. The cartoon is based upon several esoteric teachings. It begins with (our) creation. In the beginning Pinocchio is human-like, but still lifeless piece of wood, as to say an incomplete person. He must self-improve through self-discipline, self-knowledge and strong will power. The basic teachings of Gnostics. He starts his way through life. Father sends him to school, which is representing knowledge, but he is intercepted by Foul fellow the Fox, who shows him an ‘easy road to success’. So he comes to Stromboli, where he acts in a play. But, soon after, he realizes that it’s not the good way – he’s been captured in a cage, unable to go away, see his father, he will be replaced when something more interesting shows up and all the money he makes serves to enrich Stromboli. Rather realistic review of show-business. When he escapes the cage, with help of the Blue Fairy, he is again on the right road, together with his conscience – Jiminy Cricket. But for the second time, he meets the Fox, who takes him to the Pleasure Island – a place without school, meaning knowledge, and laws, meaning morals. Children are allowed to do everything – smoke, drink, destroy everything, and in the end of that kind of behavior, they become donkeys who are perfect for working in mines. It is a relation to the ‘narrow-minded’ masses, that can be controlled through mass media… Big, ignorant masses are fantastic thing to control and use as you wish. When he finally realizes that it is not a place for him, he escapes and goes home. He founds out that his father was swallowed by a whale. That is a parallel to a Book of Jonah, a story that can be found in Christianism, Judaism and Islam books. That’s Pinocchio‘s final test – he has to escape the darkness of the obtuseness and ignorance (represented by whale’s womb) in order to be a real boy, as to say an illuminated person. Meanwhile, he proved to be brave, unselfish and truthful, what the Blue Fairy asked him to become. Finally, he becomes a real boy!

5. The Chinese legend of Mulan

A rather newer cartoon than the previous ones, released in 1998, reveals the legend about a Chinese girl who couldn’t find herself in devoting to physical look and finding a perfect husband. As the first impression, you see a ‘division’ on male and female roles in the society. It is strongly specified that a man should work, maintain the family united, go to war if necessary, and a female has to feed the family, do the housework, look good and please the will of her husband. But, unlikely, in this cartoon we can see something completely different – a girl who couldn’t fit in, and whatever she did, she brought the shame on her family’s name. So, she found a way to express her real self through doing men’s stuff. She escaped from home and went to war disguised in a warrior. There, she found true friends and a perfect soul mate, who loved her for what she really was. For the first time in her life she felt good. The ‘Reflection’ song she sings perfectly shows it. So one moral of this story is that you must be true to yourself (‘True to your heart’) and follow your inner self, to find your place in this world and above all – to be truly happy, no matter what people say, they will always talk. On the other hand, this cartoon deals with two eternal motives – love and honor. She went to the army because of love she had for her father, to save him from certain death, and she returned her family the honor she stained, after showing extraordinary bravery in the battles. Some might say that it is a feminist cartoon, but I think it just counters the old male/female considering stereotypes.

6. Forever a child – Peter Pan

Another movie with a lot of hidden messages and theories. Peter Pan, a spirit of youth that will never die, a boy who doesn’t want to grow up, to lose the innocence of a child and confront to the responsibilities of an adult. That’s what it says in the beginning – All the children, except one, grow up. What does that mean? It means that the spirit is immortal, that we all should preserve some child-like attributes. A child’s happiness is an expression of love which it carries within, and the child cannot realize any different behavior (of adults). Running around and playing games are expressions of pure love and joy, but sometimes the adults (especially parents) limit their/a child, even punish it for that. But they forget that a child instinctively knows what’s essentially good or bad. A normal thing for a child is that if it feels threatened, it just defends itself and continues to play, but after several unpleasant experiences with adults, who suppress and stifle child’s love and happiness, they start to lose their innocence, bit by bit, and feel resentment. They’re no longer able to forgive, they’re frightened, because they don’t realize what were they punished for. And, of course, after years of treatment like this, they develop individual reactions that, unfortunately, make them the same as the adults. So, they grew up. I think that’s exactly what Peter Pan didn’t want, neither for himself nor for other children. In the beginning Peter lost his shadow at Wendy’s. Shadow was a subject of many psychological theories – K. G. Jung said that it represents a seat of creativity, a distant and indiscriminate aspect of mind, or repressed good characteristics or natural reactions. Wendy found his shadow and sewed it to Peter – so it means that one must confront his/her creativity, use it, try to reveal the unconscious side, not to repress things. And what about Captain Hook and the crocodile? Captain Hook is a grown up, he can’t stay in Neverland – a child’s state of mind, so he’s been chased by a crocodile, or better say the clock that ticks (louder in the Captain’s head than anywhere else) inside the crocodile, that is a constant reminder that the death is inevitable and the crocodile will be the executor. And in the end, when Wendy and her brothers come home by golden (once Captain Hook’s) ship, their father, though he didn’t believe in children’s stories etc, can see it, and he says ‘I have the strangest feeling that I’ve seen this ship before, a long time ago, when I was very young’. It clearly means that there is a bit of a child in each and every one of us, it is the question do we let it out or suppress it? Think about those stuff while raising your children. The last thing, did you notice that in this cartoon only children fly? A child’s mind knows no boundaries, there’s nothing impossible to a child.

1. Paris

We all know the classic stereotypes of Paris women: they’re rude, do not wax and do not like foreigners. Although the first two stereotypes are not entirely accurate, the third certainly is, so very little chance that you will be able to find a Frenchwoman who will agree to have sex with a stranger.

2. When the whale says ‘Thank you’

Three men saved the whale form certain death in California and he thanked them with a dance in the water. The nature created many beautiful things… Some people try to spoil it, some try to save it… One is for sure, nature can say ‘thank you’. One of these ‘thank you’ cases happened recently at the California coast, where the group of pepole saved a whale who tangled into a fishing net. This action lasted for about an hour, the whales flappers were totally tangled in this net and he was unsuccesfully trying to release himself. One of men bravely jumped into the water and began to save the whale. “When I swam beside the whale, our glances met. There are no words to describe that moment. The whale knew we were there to help him. I was a little frightened, because I knew the whale was exhausted and scared and he could kill me in a move of flapper… Nevertheless, we made it!” said one of men, who is member of Great Whale Conservancy. When they released him, the whale cheerfully jumped out of the water about 40 times, as a way to show his happiness and gratefulness. Touchy, isn’t it?

3. How did I stuck? Don’t ask!

A Chinese man who stuck his hand into the toilet had to be saved by firemen. A man who wasn’t to be named dropped his keys into the toilet in the public wc. He put his hand into it, trying to grab the keys, and got stuck. Passers – by tried to help him, but in the end they called an ambulance. Firemen succeeded in smashing the wall and the toilet and  saw that a young man somehow put his hand into  the rubber ring of the pipe that squeezed him. After two hours he was released and went with nothing more but the scratches, and a great shame ‘cos passers-by had a great fun on his account. Silly…

4. Bees, hit me!

A Chinese farmer got up courage to participate in a pretty bizare contest  - collecting bees… on your body! Farmer Vang Dalin is one of the participants in contest of collecting bees on your body that takes place in chinese province of Hunan. The goal of contest is that participants, using the queen bee, attract to themselves as large number of bees as they can. This men won – he collected, on his naked body, even 26.86kg of bees whle his opponent succeded in collecting ‘only’ 22.9kg. For this project they had an hour of time and that’s exactly for how long bees stayed on their heads, ears, eyes, hands, legs… The event attracted  a great amount of people who didn’t hide their excitement, but also a great digust when imagining themselves under those bees.

5. When love’s late

A letter of one Amrican student from Pensylvania in which she swears to  eternal love to her boyfriend, came to target… 53 years later. A love note, written in 1958 is now waitnig in California University’s post office, because the officials are still trying to contact the person addressed on the envelope, C. Moore who is now 70 and lives in another state. The letter, sent from Pitsbourg on february the 20th of 1958 was ment for C. Moore, then a student of first year of mentioned University, but there is no much info about the person signed as ‘Forever yours, Woni’ except for her address. It is a kind of letter that girls still send to their boyfriend who went to study, says the president of University regarding the part of the letter where Woni says that ‘she misses him more than ever and asks him to reply as soon as possible’. Would something be different today if he got the letter on time… We’ll probably never know…

6. Please, parents, make a deal!

A girl from Australia has two year and no name because her parrents can’t agree about it. A court in Victoria had to interfere in this case and help this girl to get a name. This husband and wife already have a son, but their marriage was very unstable and they separated before the girl was born. Lots of arguments and disagreements led to this – the girl wasn’t sign-in into the parish register, because mother wanted one name and father wanted another. The little girl answered to both names, because each parent called her by his/her own wish. Mother suggested they should give her both names, but that failed too, ‘cos they couldn’t agree which name should be first. Then, in front of the court, father said that name mother wanted to give their daughter was offending for Islam, and than they called an imam who said that it is not offensive at all… You see how far this is going… Thanks God, finally the judge decided that girl will have a name mother wanted to give her and father’s last name.

7. Hunting season open… Now you can hunt people!

Unemployed American guy offers people to hunt him as a wild beast for 10 000$… The price is bigger if he runs naked! M. Ensino from Yuta has his site, named Hunt me 4 sport, and he is searching for people ready for adventure they never had. “You have a unique chance to hunt me, as a beast with the weapon of choice! I do this because of very hard financial situation, but it’ll be fun, because I’m smarter than a turkey and faster that a  wild boar” he said. The price of hunting is 10 000$, and Ensino offers you an extra option – to hunt him naked in nature, what will cost you an extra 2 000$ by participant. He added that he already had several offers, but never accepted one, because he still hopes he will get a real job.

Daredevil

When Daredevil first appeared in comics, his character featured a single “D” on his chest. A couple of issues in, the artists at Marvel must have realized something, because from then on, the character wore two overlapping D’s instead.

Robin

He may be the sidekick of the great Dark Knight, but Robin has had things a bit tough. Not only did Batman initially make him dress up in bright colors while he got to lurk about in the shadows, he made him parade around without pants on and gave him an inferior logo – a yellow “R” on a black circle – while he got the cool bat emblem. It may be recognizable, but does it look good stuck on the side of a vehicle or shone in the sky? Not really.

Shazam

Make no mistake, this is not the Flash’s logo. Scrawny lightning bolt set on a red background? Think again. This is a chunky, macho thunder clap. Whenever young Billy Batson shouts the magic word “Shazam,” the thunder appears and transforms him into the legendary Captain Marvel: Earth’s mightiest mortal. To think, at one stage back in the 1940s, Captain Marvel’s adventures actually outsold Superman’s. In those days, perhaps this symbol would have figured higher than the “S” in our list.

The Punisher

There is a reason the Punisher settled on a large white skull as the chest logo on his black Kevlar body armor: He wanted to give the armed criminals he was up against something to aim at. It also sent a message about the cold face of death these wrongdoers were now forced to look upon. Marvel’s gun-toting vigilante has been around since the 1970s and is still going strong with an ever-increasing body count. Looks like the skull was a good choice.

Fantastic Four

Currently the Fantastic Four are no more in comics, since the four became three with the recent death of the Human Torch (it’s comics – he’ll be back at some stage). But when they were at their full roster, three of them wore the “4″ symbol from the second issue of their comic book. Confused? Well, in the first issue, the team wore regular civilian dress, and it’s hard to find room for a symbol on the one member of your team that parades around in just a pair of blue trunks.

Green Lantern

There are many Green Lanterns patrolling the universe, all of them bearing this recognizable symbol. And with the movie out this summer, it is sure to be even more so. Probably the most literal of all the superhero logos, this could easily be used in a game of Dingbats – you don’t see Batman or Spider-Man with a matchstick figure next to the logo on their chests, for example.

The Flash

It’s sometimes wondered why the Flash would actually have bothered coming up with a logo. Surely he moves so fast that no one would actually be able to see it. Maybe simplicity is the key: criminals can at least catch a quick glimpse, and a simple lightning strike through a white circle is the way to go here. An “F” would probably take too long to read, and by that stage, the criminals wouldn’t know who had apprehended them.

Spider-Man

What exactly was Peter Parker’s thought process when designing his Spidey costume? “Yeah, I’ll put a spider symbol in the middle, set in a giant web pattern that covers the rest of my body…” He probably regretted that decision when he was still sewing the webbing on at 3 a.m. five days later. Still, at least the spider idea was a good one, and it has remained a constant feature every time Spider-Man has changed his costume. Surprisingly, the webbing has not been on all of them.

Batman

Back in 1989, upon the release of the Tim Burton Batman film, this logo was printed on everything from baseball caps to erasers. Batman is probably the most fashion-conscious of the superheroes when it comes to logos, sometimes having it with the yellow oval, sometimes without. But whichever he chooses, the bat symbol looks good on everything from cars to gadgets, and when shone in the sky by Commissioner Gordon, it’s a message to all criminals to be on their guard.

Superman

The shield logo on Superman’s chest has certainly evolved since its first appearance back in 1938 — then just a simple squiggle “S” inside a yellow triangle. These days it is one of the world’s most recognizable symbols. But is it really an “S”? The symbol hails from the planet Krypton and is the crest of Superman’s family home, so the fact that it looks like an Earth “S” must be a coincidence.

9. Alan Shore

Notorious but brilliant hound dog of lawyers office ‘Crane, Paul and Schmidt’, reminds a lot of House, with exception of being more tolerate to people and in the end learns a lesson from his own work. Created by David Kelly, who is a lawyer himself, Alan is unpredictable machine for ‘grinding’ of clients, he doesn’t hesitate to use blackmails, extortion and other non ethical ideas if it leads him to winning in court. Also a big womanizer and bonvivant. The typical Alan Shore sentence is: ‘Why is that so important to everyone, maintaining integrity?’

8. Benjamin Linus

As a phenomenon of modern age, the series LOST is imagined in such way that it doesn’t have positive or negative characters (well, there are a few exceptions). Every person who shows up in this epic saga has expressed negative characteristics, as well as sins from the past. Still, nobody among them isn’t nearly dangerous nor popular as Ben Linus, the head villain during almost the whole series. In the beginning imagined as a serial killer, pathological liar and ruthless guardian of the Island, also with an antisocial personality disorder, Ben transforms into something completely different in the end. It is interesting that, no matter he isn’t a main character, he dominated almost every scene he showed up in. The typical Ben Linus sentence is: ‘I always have a plan!’

7. Tony Soprano

The famous ‘guido’, the head of maffia and his own even crazier family. He represents a school example of bad guy, just archetypal obnoxious who deals with blackmailing, extortion, drug dealing and murders. He is anxious, depressive, cheats his wife, swears so much… But still, he is a fantastic example of morbid and charming person who fascinates the audience with the fact that it is interesting to watch mafia boss’ development path. Though we don’t know many people like him in real life, I hope so. The typical Tony Soprano sentence is: ‘Why don’t you get the f*ck out of here before I shove your quotation book up your fat fu**ing ass!’

6. Chuck Bass

Young Ed Westwick is a revelation among young actors. He masterly interpretes a character of endlessly selfish and even more rich Chuck Bass, the most interesting character of enormously popular but underestimated series Gossip Girl. This series is our only insight into scandalous life of Manhattan elite. Chuck is spoiled child without parents, who spends his inherited billions in a so sadistic way that you must ask yourself ‘What’s happening to today’s youth?’ He avoids going to school, drinks from dusk till dawn, takes drugs, speaks about his bisexual adventures, walks around with whores and makes scandals all around New York. And nevertheless everybody adore him! Young Westwick is infallible in portraiture of Bass as a modern Gatsby or any other swinging guy from the ‘America’s golden age’. The typical Chuck Bass sentence is simple: ‘Because I’m Chuck Bass’.

5. Cartman

As sympathetic Kyle Brofovski once said: ‘You unbelieveable son of a b**ch!’ Eric Cartman is, by his own admission, the personification of all evil in the world. Little, fat guy who hates everything – Jews, black people, Asians, Canadians… Oh, the list is too long. A great master of intrigues, insults and psychotic outbursts, in the end succeeds in winning good kids and prooving that there is no God. In a sea of brilliant hellish plans, we especially recommend the episode ‘Scott Tennorman Must Die’. The typical Cartman sentence is: ‘Respect my authority!’

4. Dexter Morgan

Certainly the biggest lunatic on the list. In the beginning many people thought that this is the show about a serial killer who covers his own crimes and will never have a positive reception from anybody, but they were all wrong. Dexter Morgan is the absolute, impeccable sociopath, who doesn’t see himself as a society member, but focuses on killing other criminals that he wants to ‘put in order’ before cops get them. Emotionally completely estranged, unbearably cold, even he possesses the dark charm which keeps millions of people around the world chained to a chair every time they hear credits for this series. The typical Dexter sentence is: ‘Killing must serve a purpose. Otherwise, it’s just plain murder.’

3. Mr Burns

The biggest villain ever. The most terrifying, notorious figure ever seen on TV. Shameless, selfish single person, Charles Montgomery Burns terrorizes normally quiet Springfield, because as the owner of a nuclear powerhouse he has all the money and the power he needs to do that. This old man is so fearsome because he could occult the Sun if he wanted to. Nevertheless, we must congratulate him for entertaining the whole planet with his jokes and actions for more than two decades. The typical Mr Burns sentence is: ‘What good is money if it can’t inspire terror in your fellow man?’

2. Denny Crane

Idolatry is the devil’s work, but it is kind of a normal that we like Danny Crane, a good friend of already mentioned Alan Shore. Indescribably direct, funny, charming and talkative, with a mad cow disease, Denny Crane is a true icon of American and world’s life style. In each and every episode he creates funny situations and masters the statements that even truckers under the influence of alcohol wouldn’t say. He is obsessed  with sex, cigars and whiskey, and with a plenty of money he is a dream come true of every man in America. And just for the record, he is now 80! We cannot choose just one typical sentence for him, so here are the most memorable ones:

‘I have an erection. That’s a good sign. I’m ready to go to trial. Lock and load.’
‘Did something happen? Was I in the room when it happened?’
‘Now, Alan, if all else fails and you think you’ve lost, pretend you’ve won! Works for our president.’

Eric Draven (the Crow) – The Crow (1994)

This is a modern classic. Some people would argue that the crow is more of a hero, but there’s tons of darkness around this character, more than a hint of insanity, and he will kill anyone who gets in between him and his revenge. That’s where the difference is. If he just killed the murderers, fine, but he kills the whole gang, works his way up the chain, and kills anyone in collusion. Just? Sure, but still an anti-hero.

Harry Callahan – Dirty Harry (1971)

“Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?” This is now one of the most famous lines in all of cinema. Harry Callahan, nicknamed “Dirty Harry,” is known as a renegade cop who doesn’t care about breaking the law (specifically the rights of the criminal) to get the job done. Dirty Harry has a very clear sense of right, but he is a “the ends justify the means” type of guy, which keeps him in the doghouse and puts him on this list.

Snake Plissken – Escape from New York (1981)

Snake Plissken is the epitome of a bad boy “hero.” He is a convict, he hates the government, wants to drink and smoke, and doesn’t give a crud about authority. He is a bad guy, but mostly because his need to be self-serving contradicts with the government and authorities. Put in situations to do good, he does, even if coerced, and he often seems to have more morals than the “good guys” that he’s working for. That being said, he doesn’t do good for anyone unless he gets something out of it. Snake has darkness all around him, and his “me first” attitude and ability to fight off (or fit in with) the worst scum make him a futuristic anti-hero.

Tyler Durden – Fight Club (1999)

Tyler Durden is the modern anti-hero! Anti-capitalism, anti-credit card, he’s against being made into a zombie and he hates big brother. This film delves into a modern society, always broken, always needing a fix. He is the strong, independent, “alive” man that most men want to be, fighting against obvious wrongs we feel powerless against, but for no good moral reason, but because he can. He does what he does because he wants to, and if some of us want to join a fight club and see him as heroic, that’s just part of the ride.

D-Fens – Falling Down (1993)

This is a true cult classic. Many people love this movie, or they hate it. Michael Douglas plays the part of “D-Fens,” a normal man who has a terrible day during an unusually hot Los Angeles summer day. He tries to get home to his daughter’s birthday party, but is accosted time after time by a society that isn’t fair—and like many of us has thought about, he fights back, becoming a vigilante and getting increasingly violent as his sanity is obviously going out the window. From an Asian grocer overcharging badly, to crap fast food that doesn’t look like the picture, to two gang members trying to rob him, to a Neo-Nazi who breaks his snow globe…he faces the daily things that piss every person off, and even though he certainly is not “good.” How he tries to fix what’s broken is poetic, but by the end he’s cracked and a killer, but one who is easy to sympathize with because he just got pushed too far.

The Man With No Name – The Dollars Trilogy (1964, 65, 66)

Clint Eastwood makes this list twice, but it’s hard to beat his “man with no name” from the Westerns. A man with a dark past, no future, and he knows how to kill and how to move on after killing. He’s not kind, but he is righteous. He’s a killer and he knows it, but he will only kill other killers. He has no name because he has no future, but he has a true code of honor. Not good, not bad, but honorable: the perfect anti-hero.

“Mad” Max Rockatansky – Mad Max & Sequels (1979)

Mad Max is a great example of an anti-hero. He walks away from being a cop to wage a war of vengeance, and as the world falls apart, he re-appears, always thinking about himself first, and willing to help survivors only if they had something to offer him. By the third movie he’s just a shell, who refuses to go with people who would care for him, love him, because he goes alone. He only helps others when he has something to lose by not doing so, making Mad Max one of the most beloved anti-heroes of all time.

The MacManus Brothers – The Boondock Saints (1999)

Troy Duffy’s cult classic follows two Irish brothers who are deeply devoted to their faith, yet fully accepting of the idea of being “the vengeful hand of God.” These two brothers cuss like Quentin Tarantino, drink like a bad Irish joke, and shoot without remorse…but they will ONLY shoot bad guys. They won’t even go after the FBI agent trying to nail them. This story starts as self defense against a couple Russian thugs from the Russian mafia, and evolves following the brothers as they decide that doing nothing with evil all around is far worse a sin than killing evil men. This study in vigilantism creates the brothers as great anti-heroes, even as they murder bad guy after bad guy, and the last scene, where a bad guy is executed in front of his family (mom, wife, and all) makes it clear that they may be likable, but as Agent Smecker says in the film “They are not superheroes triumphing over evil.” But they are amazing anti-heroes.

Travis Bickle – Taxi Driver (1976)

No matter what list you look at of top anti-heroes in movies, Robert De Niro’s portrayal of a cab driver gone vigilante is right at the top of everyone’s list. This is especially amazing considering how many good anti-heroes are out there in movies, and there is wide disagreement on top ten lists, but Travis Bickle is a great example of how the darkness can seep in. First off, we as the audience tend to sympathize with him, but his motives remain unknown throughout the film which makes it hard to stay with his actions, especially as it becomes clear that he’s not completely all there, and then the assassination attempt of a political candidate seems straight out evil until he saves a child prostitute, but his head is so messed up you don’t know why he’s doing anything any more, making even heroic actions seem, well, really creepy.

Leon – Leon: The Professional (1994)

There have been few movies so beautifully woven, few characters like Leon, played by Jean Reno. Leon is a professional assassin who lives in a shady part of New York City. He lives next door to a 13 year old Matilda, who is part of a dysfunctional family. When the family is killed by a corrupt DEA agent, Leon reluctantly agrees to take care of the young girl. She asks questions that are unnerving, asking Leon to be her first lover (thankfully he refuses) and asking personal questions along that nature. In the extended version there is a suggestion that there is more than a father daughter relationship, and while he “protects” her, he teaches her how to be a killer. Leon never appears as a warm figure. Even in a “heroic suicide,” he is still a murderer and without remorse, but it was in defense of another. And yes, after long discussion in our office, we choose Leon to be our greatest anti-hero!

RoboCop

This was one of my favourite movies when I was kid. Officer Alex Murphy is a damn fine cop, and amputating most of his body isn’t going to change that. Paul Verhoeven’s dystopian classic RoboCop looks more and more prescient each day, and it’s only a matter of time before OCP takes over Detroit for real. One of the most chilling scenes in the movie comes when Murphy’s doctors tell OCP’s Bob Morton that they’ve managed to save one of Murphy’s arms, only for Morton to command them to take it off to make Robo more efficient. From the baby food diet to the crook-wrecking hand cannon, Robocop is one of the best cyborgs of all time.

Kano

Choosing a favorite cyborg from the Mortal Kombat series is like choosing a favorite pallette-swapped ninja from the Mortal Kombat series: just about impossible. After much deliberation, we decided to go with Kano. Not only was he represented in the very first game, he also has some of the nastiest fatalities in the whole series. As the leader of the Black Dragon, he came into contact with Jackson “Jax” Briggs early in his career. Fist-to-face contact, that is, as Jax smashed his skull and eye socket, forcing him to get fitted for a cyborg prosthetic that can shoot lasers.

Ash Williams

Most of the cyborgs on this list have been created through pretty high-tech means. Unfortunately, sometimes you don’t have the best and brightest scientists on call and you have to wing it. Ash Williams, the protagonist of the Evil Dead series, gets his machine parts the hard way. After seeing his hand possessed by a “deadite,” he cuts it off with his trusty chainsaw and mounts the machine to his stump, transforming him into a gore-spouting murder machine of the highest caliber. Eventually he makes a metal hand to take its place, but the chainsaw is really the pimp gear.

Deathlok

Let’s be frank: a lot of the time, being a cyborg kind of sucks. Case in point: Deathlok the Demolisher. Colonel Luther Manning was fatally injured in the line of duty, but for some crazy-ass reason his body was preserved and brought back to life in the future tricked out with a panoply of mechanical parts. Nobody actually ever asked him if this was cool, so naturally he has some problems adjusting to the whole deal. Later on, he travels back in time to team up with Spider-Man and winds up brainwashed and turned into a living bomb. While he was functioning, though, he kicked a lot of ass – massive strength, computer-quick reflexes and a damn laser gun. All awesome.

Seven Of Nine

We like to think of the process of cyborgification as simply adding non-sentient metal parts to be controlled by our human consciousness. But what if the robot bits were the consciousness? Ergo, the Borg, one of the longest-running Star Trek foes. Probably the most interesting example of the Borg is Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager. Rom

Probably the best toy tie-in comic of all time, Rom: Spaceknight took a doomed Hasbro action figure and spun a world of star-spanning adventure around it. The planet Galador was under attack by the rapacious Dire Wraiths, so brave Galadorians chose to be transformed into Spaceknights, cold steel warriors built to combat the powerful foes. Rom was sent to Earth to continue the fight, where us dumb-ass humans treated him like he was the bad guy – mainly because the Wraiths could shapeshift to human form. Alas, because of copyrights the series will never be reprinted.

Trap Jaw

If you look back objectively, He-Man was kind of a tool. Prancing around in his furry underwear and bondage gear, riding a cat into battle – it’s all a little suspect. In contrast, Skeletor and his henchmen seem pretty awesome. Case in point: Trap Jaw. A villain from another dimension, he hooks up with Skeletor early in his career and makes a name for himself with his metal jaw that can bite through anything. The more metal he eats, the stronger he becomes, which makes him a great role model for the kids out there.

Adam

One of my favorite Buffy big bads was Adam, the final product of the demon-hunting group known as the Initiative. Created by Maggie Walsh as an attempt to build the perfect organism, Adam is half human, half demon and half machine. Yes, I realize that that’s three halves. He’s just that much of a badass. After his first act – killing his creator – he set out into the world to make more creatures like himself. Despite having a built-in grenade launcher among other armaments, Adam’s greatest weapon is his computerized intelligence and demonic charisma. Buffy and crew barely manage to stop him, and that’s pretty tough.

Gray Fox

One of the most badass characters in the Metal Gear Solid series is Gray Fox. When we meet him in the first game, he’s in the guise of a cyborg ninja who appears at helpful intervals to wreck stuff – but is he friend or foe? His real name is Frank Jaeger, and he was once one of Solid Snake’s compatriots in Foxhound. He comes to a particularly grisly end, but his trademark battle armor shows up on a few other characters throughout the series. The ninja really hammered home the fact that Snake wasn’t a superhuman protagonist in his own game, but a vulnerable meatbag who needed to be smart to survive.

Darth Vader

Easily the most awesome man-machine to ever walk the earth, Darth Vader is such a tremendous badass that even three prequel movies couldn’t dampen his swag. Born Anakin Skywalker, the Sith Lord slowly went over to the Dark Side, but that’s not why he got all droided up. No, it was falling into an active volcano after a vicious fight with Obi-Wan Kenobi that did it. Even before the volcano dive, Anakin had already lost all of his arms and legs to lightsaber attacks. Rescued by the evil Emperor Palpatine, Vader is reconstructed as a heavy breathing juggernaut of pure evil.
